Shenango Institute for Public Policy

MISSION STATEMENT
The Shenango Institute for Public Policy is a non-partisan research and educational institute whose mission is to formulate and promote public policies at the local-government level based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom and responsibility, and a respect for traditional values. We believe these principles are the foundation for human dignity, happiness, and prosperity.
Our primary focus will be the central-western Pennsylvania area, including Lawrence, Mercer, Butler and Venango counties. We support: (1) private-sector solutions to social and economic problems; (2) competitive-market processes in the delivery of government services; (3) requiring governments to prove that benefits outweigh costs before embarking on public-works projects; and (4) evaluation of social services on an outcomes rather than inputs basis. Just as competition works for the private sector, we believe it works best for the public sector as well.
The Shenango Institute will advance these principles by performing detailed, accurate research on local policy issues. We will publish our findings in reports and policy papers made available to community leaders and individuals in the print and electronic media. Our hope is to change the climate of opinion in the Central - Western Pennsylvania area and improve the lives of its residents.
